Gender Based Violence Awareness and Prevention Worker

Job Type: Contract - Full-Time

Work Hours/Week: 35 hours/week

Hourly Wage (range): $26.00-$30.00

Reports to: Program Manager


Position Summary


The Gender-Based Violence Awareness and Prevention Worker will provide support to GBV cases and provide the appropriate supports and referrals needed to address, prevent and heal from violence. The chosen candidate will work closely with our Indigenous Family Support workers and our Mino M'shki-ki Indigenous Health Teams to enhance our wrap-around services.

Duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Document pathways and journey within the system for members (clients).
  • Responsible for conducting needs assessments and case management for victims or survivors of violence and documenting gaps that exist within the support resources.
  • Ensure regular follow-up of the implementation of individual case plans developed for individuals.
  • Provide confidential referral based on the best interest of the individual case adequate receive support once referral has been made.
  • Complete and maintain case management records and ensure that they are stored in a safe and confidential manner.
  • Hold monthly workshops and seminars to raise aware about GBV and local GBV supports.
  • Create and update a service map on GBV support and resource coverage for the region.
  • Refer individuals and/or support the delivery of culturally appropriate supports including healing and sharing circles, land-based interventions, traditional medicines, and sacred ceremonies.
  • Introduce culturally rooted interventions to assist in:

- Understanding how Indigenous victims and survivors are impacted by gender-based violence and support their healing through traditional and cultural approaches and,

- Understanding how the provision of culturally appropriate services and care opens safe pathways to self-reporting of gender-based violence, and consequently, supports members to access programming that strengthens their healing journey's.

  • Collaborate with other Keepers of the Circle's departments and teams when needed to coordinate services and resource management.
  • Other related duties as assigned to support Keepers of the Circle's teams and members.

Requirements and Skills

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and have a kind and approachable demeanor.

  • Experience working with the Indigenous community.
  • Organized and efficient with time management.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office.
  • Excellent problem-solving ability.
  • Respect to diversity.
  • Non-judgmental.
  • Able to demonstrate a high level of professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Ability to apply critical thinking to solve complex issues and identify strategies regarding GBV.
  • Trauma-informed training is a requirement.
  • Ability to travel and a valid G license.
  • Understanding and commitment to protection of rights and issues.
  • Relevant experience in gender-based violence programming, including case management is desirable.
